The Legend of King Arthur
The face cards of the Minor Arcana suits are all based on historical and mythological characters, and the Cups recall the fictional legend of King Arthur of Camelot. The folklore surrounding King Arthur, his knights of the round table, and his quest for the Holy Grail were hugely popular in medieval times, and King Arthur and the characters surrounding him became literally the stuff of legend.
The noble King Arthur of Camelot is oblivious of the treachery he will soon face and its consequences.
Gwenevere will eventually be caught with Lancelot and be burned at the stake for her love affair.
After Lancelot is be caught with Gwenevere and exiled after the Round Table falls and he kills many of Arthur's men escaping Camelot.
Amir, the son of the King. He will eventually be killed by King Arthur for rising up against him as well.
Merlin, Arthur's advisor and wizard. He eventually falls in love with one of his students of magic - nicknamed The Lady of the Lake - who breaks Merlin's heart and imprisons him.
​Merlin magically reconstructed Stonehenge after Arthur's father decided he wanted it moved from Ireland to the Salisbury plain.
Caliburn, the sword that Merlin bound into a stone that Arthur was challenged to remove as a test of his worthiness to be king. Not to be confused with Excalibur, given to Arthur by the Lady in the Lake, which made him king of Camelot.
The Holy Grail, which King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table quested after. According to legend, Joseph of Aramathea, a disciple of Jesus, took it from the Last Supper and collected Jesus' blood with it while Jesus was on the cross.
